Apprentices Day Brings Team Spirit & Progress to Apex
Apex recently hosted its first Apprentices Day, welcoming apprentices from across branches for a dynamic programme of team-building, professional development, and business progress. The event, held at the Wednesbury branch, was designed to foster collaboration and inspire fresh thinking. It was met with enthusiastic feedback and high praise from attendees.
The day kicked off with an insightful talk from Managing Director Steve Forbes, whose words set the tone for a culture of empowerment and continuous improvement. Apprentify, the company’s trusted training provider, also delivered an engaging session on the value of upskilling and modern apprenticeship pathways. These talks provided valuable context for the day’s activities and reinforced the company’s commitment to nurturing talent.
Apprentices participated in a series of team challenges and activities, designed to strengthen cooperation and problem-solving skills. Prizes were awarded throughout the day, recognising both creativity and teamwork. The lively atmosphere encouraged apprentices to connect, share ideas, and build relationships beyond their usual roles.

Apprentices' Day welcomed a broad spectrum of participants, including long-serving staff members actively upskilling, as well as new recruits, some straight from school. This blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm created a unique environment where knowledge-sharing and mentorship flourished.
One of the event’s core features was roundtable discussions, enabling apprentices to explore business improvements and share perspectives on their specialist fields. These conversations sparked creative solutions and reinforced the value of diverse viewpoints. Apprentices were encouraged to take ownership of their areas, driving progress and positive change across the business.
Both Managing Director Steve Forbes and Commercial Director Gareth Whiteford delivered motivational and inspirational talks to apprentices, with Gareth sharing his own inspirational journey. Having begun his career as an apprentice at Apex nearly three decades ago, Gareth’s story resonated with attendees and demonstrated the potential for growth within the company. His encouragement underscored Apex’s commitment to developing future leaders from within.
Data apprentice Nathan Jones, who has been with Apex for over ten years and is currently upskilling, reflected on the experience: "Apprentices Day was a really good chance to bounce ideas around with fresh-minded people. Their enthusiasm and different perspectives led to some great conversations and plenty of new ideas".
This feedback echoed the broader sentiment of the day, with apprentices highlighting the value of networking, cross-team collaboration, and the chance to champion their own work.
Apprentices Day at Wednesbury was a testament to Apex’s commitment to staff development and progress across all branches. With strong leadership support and a vibrant apprentice community, the company looks forward to building on this success, fostering ongoing growth and launching future initiatives to empower all staff.
